Our Annual Burns Night
Welcome to Balerno Folk Club
Balerno Folk Club meets most months on the last Tuesday in the function room of Balerno Bowling Club (a map with the ability to get directions can be found on the Where we meet page). As a monthly club we tend to book well-established professional (or semi-professional) artistes. We also try to provide a wide selection of talent so that there is always something for everyone’s particular taste in folk music.
We do not meet in July or August, when we have a couple of months off. Occasionally we run Charity Concerts and make donations to local charities.
In January there is a "Burns Nicht" which is regularly hosted by Ken McDonald, a much-respected local Burns enthusiast, with the entertainment provided by our own regular Club singers & musicians with additional recitations given by members of the local Burns clubs.
Following in the footsteps of the excellent "one and only" compere, Charlie Husband, who has been an integral part of each guest night for many years, this role is now taken on by longstanding club member, Janet Weatherston
As well as providing great entertainment, our club also runs a fantastic raffle (made possible due to the dedication of of committee members, Linda Stirling and Margaret Lang who search shops high and low for a variety of prizes).
At the AGM every year a committee and office bearers are elected and jobs shared out.
